Charlotte Bronte was an English novelist born in Yorkshire, in 1816.

Her second novel Jane Eyre (1847) is one of the best-loved works of English fiction to this day. Bronte also published a collection of poetry in 1846, and the novels Shirley (1849) and Villette (1853). The Professor her first novel, initially rejected, was published in 1857, two years after her death.
