Here are some of the courses I will be running in 2010.
Ian McEwan: Selected Novels - 10 Week Course
This course will examine four recent novels by acclaimed British writer Ian McEwan. From the unforgettable opening of Enduring Love to the emotional claustrophobia of On Chesil Beach, we will explore the themes, ideas and style of each novel, and build up a wider picture of McEwan's work. We will also consider the novels as examples of contemporary 'literary' fiction, and address the question of what 'literature' is in the 21st century.

Start: Friday 15th January 2010
Time: 10am to 12 noon
Cost: £69.00

1920s American Literature - 10 Week Course
A chance to study three classic works of American literature from the 1920s. We will explore the changes Modernism brought to the literary novel, and how a younger generation of American writers began to form a new image of American identity. Examining each novel in its own right, we will consider the generational differences in sensibility and theme between the younger Hemingway and Fizgerald, and the older Wharton.
